Question on a name...
Hey peoples! I've got a question for ya. There's this cool guy in my Public Speaking class at the college, and he wants to know what his name means. His name is Ammon. I've already given him the info from the database here, which says it's the Greek form of Amon, which is Egyptian for "hidden one". This name was passed down to him from his great-grandfather, supposedly a friend of a Native American-what kind he doesn't know. Does anyone have any other possible ideas as to where his name came from, or does what Mike C. have pretty much it? Thanks in advance.

Amon was indeed the Egyptian god of life and reproduction, represented as a man with a ram's head. Greeks refererd to Ammon as the "Libyan Zeus".
The name is most probably related to the Greek word "ammos", meaning sand.
