Please provide sufficient information on the name to show its ethnicity and meaning and to convince our proprietor, Mr. Campbell, that this is a documented real first name (not a Web handle of Rick from Fairbanks, or somebody) and he'll likely add it the next time around. Proof of combat experience is not necessary.
Please note that the names of two of the more prolific posters here, Pavlos and Nanaea, are not yet on this board, so it ain't automatic.

That's okay -- Nanaea doesn't really want to see her name on the list. Not that I don't think it's a cool list -- it's a very cool list. It's just that I don't want a whole lot of people seeing it there and thinking, "Hey, *that's* what we'll name the baby!", and then wearing out my name. :)

Unless you have further, stronger objections I am going to add your name to the list. I wouldn't worry about my site greatly increasing the usage of your name.
So far I have only found out that Nanaea was an Elamite goddess (aka Anaitis) mentioned briefly in the OT. Do you have further info on the name or the goddess?

I don't know which is more flattering -- that you really want to put my funny name on your site, or that you've been reading my postings. :)
According to *Women of Classical Mythology: A Biographical Dictionary* by Robert E. Bell (Oxford University Press, 1991): "Nanaea was another name for Anaitis, the Asiatic divinity with whom Artemis was often identified."
I seem to recall having once found two historical references to the goddess Nanaea some years ago, but I'll have to check on that when I'm at work later today.

According to *Women of Classical Mythology: A Biographical Dictionary* by Robert E. Bell (Oxford University Press, 1991): "Nanaea was another name for Anaitis, the Asiatic divinity with whom Artemis was often identified."
I seem to recall having once found two historical references to the goddess Nanaea some years ago, but I'll have to check on that when I'm at work later today.

I've found those two historical references to the goddess Nanaea -- or rather, to the Temple of Nanaea as mentioned in the first book of The Maccabees.
Flavius Josephus, in both his works *The Jewish War* and *Antiquities of the Jews*, identifies Nanaea with the goddess Artemis.
Appian, in his *Syrian Wars*, identifies Nanaea with the goddess Aphrodite.
So, I guess I'm half virgin huntress and half booty-call babe. No wonder I was such a contrary kid when growing up! :)
