A "lifemate" is someone to whom you are mated for life. Like wolves.

No, the idea of lifemates is not pagan. People can be married and lifemates, some can be involved in what can be termed "common law marriages" and be lifemates some lifemates are involved in situations that they cannot be in either "real" marriages or "common law marriages" (members of the homosexual community fall under that catagory). Alas, I wish my Wicca and Neopagan instructor was here. She could explain it far better than I.

Having until recently lived in a county with a 72% divorce rate, l'd be hesitant to refer to anyone as a "lifemate" until one party or the other kicks it. A safer term is "current spouse".
