Help! "Royal" names needed
I am doing research for my final linguistics project and I need names that mean "king"/"quin" or ruler in as many languages as possible. Can anybody help?
Here's what I have up to now:
Akhil (Sanskrit)
Alaric (Germanic)
Basil / Vasil (Greek)
Berthold (Germanic)
Carevna (Slavic)
Cesar (Latin)
Cyril (Greek)
Donna (Latin)
Emyr (Welsh)
Eric (Gaulic)
Gospodin (the Bulgarian word for sir, also used as a name :o)
Henry (Germanic)
Jagdish (Sanskrit)
Lareyna (Spanish)
Leah (Assyrian)
Leroy (French)
Malka (Hebrew)
Melek (Hebrew)
Morrigan (Irish)
Queen (English)
Raj and others beginning with Raj-(Sanskrit)
Rani (Sanskrit)
Reagan (Irish)
Regina/Regis (Latin)
Rex (Latin)
Rioghnach (Irish)
Rhodri (Irish)
Ryan (Irish)
Shah and others beginning with Shah-(Persian)
Sultana (Turkish)
Suraj (Persian)
Tudor (Gaelic)
Vercingetorix (Gaulic)
Vladimir (Slavic)
Walter (Germanic)
Xerxes (Persian)
I don't need the ones meaning "of royal birth" (like Fitzroy or Eugenes), just plain "ruler". Any ideas?

a qu about the name AlaricI am guessing the name Alairic is just another spelling of Alaric
This site has been so fabulous;
In my third book, the Silver dragon, Silver/Adria, the main character, modeled after me has a daughter named Ariana,
I didn't know that name even existed until this site, neverless meant SILVER!
how ironic is that.
Now my first daughter (in the book) Leandra, has 2 sons, Archer and Alairic.
Archer, the older son becomes king, but Alairic meaning ruler, and me not even knowing it was a name!
How ironically wonderful!
TY for everything again, I can't wait to find more names on here!
Anyone know the origin of Invatawny (also spelt Infatawny, came from the name Infatality) ~Silver

Why don't you name the older son Alairic? It would make perfect sense :o):)

Looks like you've got a pretty comprehensive list here, Ivayla. It's also nice to see someone who knows how to use the Search feature on the main page of this site. :)Try searching on the words "prince" and "princess", as well. You'll turn up names like Amir, Almira, Balder, Brendan, etc.-- Nanaea
