Good Day,
What is the origin of the short forms i.e. how do they come to be ?
For example how is Bill (or other forms such as Billy) related to William ? Bob to Robert ? Jack to John (remember Kennedy)? These, and many others are not obvious. Short forms like Ted to Theodore, Rob to Robert, Mike to Michael, etc. are obvious.
Let me know.

Interestingly enough, out Mike C was interviewed on CBC radio on this very subject last October. Check out the October archives (Oct 17) for some info plus some interesting tangents from Pavlos, Davidh, and Andrea.
