the name "Gulish"
In the Latin records of a Roman Catholic Church in Widnes, UK one of the names listed in a baptism record for a boy is "Gulish". Any info as to meaning would be gratefully received.

One problem that plagues genealogists is having to deal with poorly transcribed records -- or having to transcribe almost illegible records. I gather you're researching your family history, Jean? Have you seen the actual church record with the name "Gulish" written there, or are you working from microfilm or somebody else's transcription? If you're working from a secondary source, is it possible that you can contact someone to re-check the primary source (i.e. the actual church record) for you? It's just that "Gulish" sounds like such an odd name to have been recorded in Latin records. I'm not saying that it can't be a real name -- just that I think that maybe there may be a transcription error in there somewhere.-- Nanaea
