Re: origin of mane
Mane is a form of the Yiddish name Man (Manes, Manek...), meaning "man" in the 'honourable' sense of the term, not just the contrary of "woman". Like in "he's a really man, he's worthy, good, intelligent, brave...". http://data.jewishgen.org/wconnect/wc.dll?jg~jgsearch~model~GNDB_POLA~MANEK~GT~!1!!2!!3!~0~USRECORD781It could also be a nickname of Emmanuel. http://data.jewishgen.org/wconnect/wc.dll?jg~jgsearch~model~GNDB_POLA~MANE~GT~!1!!2!!3!~0~USRECORD640
