Probably because at least in English your pronunciation seems to correspond more to the spelling Elissia--vowels tend to be said long when surrounded by single consonants, short with doubles (hater, hatter for example.)Or there could be the fact that Elysian as in "Elysian Fields" is pronounced E-lee-zhun.
