No, that's a common misconceptionThe nectarine's just a fuzzless peach. Wikipedia says so: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peach. (And the Talk page is all about nectarines, with no specific contradiction that it's a subspecies of peach.)A pluot is a hybrid of a two-thirds plum and one-third apricot. Ah, right . . .I think Mum and I had a conversation about this actually - back when she was a kid in England, a cross between a plum and a peach was known as a nectarine, but then the word started getting used for something else.Thanks :-)
