Merel
I posted about this name on the opinions board but I just wanted to check the pronounciation. Am I correct in pronouncing the name 'MARE-uhl'? Thanks!

Oh that's hard..maybe Lucille can give a better explanation, but i can only think of "Mih-rul", but Mih is not pronounced as "My" but as "Mi" / "Mie"...Rul or Ruhl (soft u sound) comes closest i think...
But it's deffinately not "Mare", but "Mir" if you understand..but the accent is on the "Mih" so you got that right!lol it's hard to explain our pronouncations to a not-Dutchy..:) Hope you understand and that you've got it right..maybe Lucille or someone else can help here too..

Ok, that helps some- I have heard the name pronounced by a little girl (to who the name belongs) but she also knows 2 other languages and I wasn't sure if the accent was purely Dutch. I think I understand what you mean. Thanks!

You're welcome..it depends what she's speaks most of the time..if it's Dutch it will be Mih-rul, if it's English it will Meryl...

No it's not! lol sorry, i don't know how to explain it by dutch pronounciations, so i hope Lucille can, cause i'm clueless..i know how Meryl is pronounced (yes as in Meryl Streep) and it is totally different from our Merel! Maybe it's just our Mer and our R in general..lol just as our hard g..can't explain it..lol
