Re: Please, could you help me find the meaning to the name 'Relena?'
in reply to a message by Una
I feel like I've seen where it comes from before (I was a Gundam Wing obsessive years ago!), but I don't remember. This is my guess, though. In Japanese, the L and R sounds are interchangeable. Since that means her name could also be Anglicised as Lerena, I would guess that it might mean "the queen," as that phrase would be "la reina" in Spanish and "la reine" in French.I'm not sure how likely that is, but it's the first thought that came to mind. Remember also that the majority of the characters in Gundam Wing have names that come from numbers (Duo, Quatre, Zechs, Treize, etc) and her name could possibly come from a number as well. I just wouldn't be able to guess which one, and in what language.Array

Yes, I found it in Gundam Wing. If it drives from a number like most of the other characters I would have no idea what number it would be either. Since she symbolizes peace for the series I guess that is what her name might mean. Your sugestion seems plosable as well since she was the queen of the World Nation. I guess it is a made-up name. Thankyou for your work and time. Sincerely,
Una

Any time!Unfortunately, I think I might have originally seen a meaning for her name on Counting for Lunatics, a Gundam Wing website that no longer exists. If you're curious as the the numbers related to the other characters, by the by, you can see them here: http://www.lelola.net/gw/names.shtmlArray
