Lynn was actually very popular as a boys name in Wales about 30-40 years ago, and it still turns up as a middle name for boys born today (rare). Nowadays boys are more likely (I would think) to be named Lyndon or Lynford when remembering male relatives with this name. The usage may derive from the surname Lynn )person from King's Lynn, a small town)or the Welsh word Llyn (hleen) 'pool', or from some third source unknown to me.
