Did you ever get a full and valid response to your question? It happens to be my first name. It's actually a French surname, but my parents decided to give it to me as a first name! :) And as a francophone and a linguist, I believe it is the female version of MONET (cf. Julien (m.), Julienne (f.)). I recall doing some research on the name's history a while back and remember reading something about it having been derived from the Hebrew "monan daeg" which means "Moon day" which was shortened to "Monday"...thus, in Spanish and Italian LUNA, French LUNE. Haven't found information on its diachronic changes, so I don't know how it ended up in the form "Monette."
