Sad story, TB :(

Cannon is probably derived from the weapon cannon, which is derived from the Latin "Canna" meaning "reed, pipe, tube" which in turn is derived from the Greek "Kanne" meaning "reed".

Ryker is probably derived from "Ryke", a Scottish version of "reach" which is related to the Old Teutonic "Reichen".
