I hate to break the news, but...Kara in Greek means either:
1. A tame goat
2. A human or animal head
If I were you, I would stick with the Italian or Gaelic meanings :p

Also......in contemporary Greek, the prefix "Kara-" also means "black," as per the Turkish word "kara". A common greek surname is "Karayiannis", meaning "Black John". This is also the etymology behind the name Karajan (as in Herbert von).
