Anybody know the meaning and origin of the female name Gora? I saw this name yesterday in birth announcements. It strikes me as a Russian/Slavic diminutive, but I'm not really sure. The word "gora" means "mountain" in Russian, but I've never seen it used as a personal name.

Gora means mountain in Slovenian, also. There is a male croatian name Goran (means the man of the mountains). There is also a female variant of this name: Gorana.
