Tanya is a Russian/Slavic diminutive of Tatyana. Another spelling of Tanya is Tanja (used for example in Germany and in Scandinavia). To my knowledge, Tatyana/Tatiana/Tatiane is of Hebrew origin, but the pet formation Tanya originates from Eastern Europe.
