what does my maiden name and married name mean?
Hi! I'm new here and came across this site 'cuz my daughter is wanting to know about our names. Hope you all can help me! My maiden name was LACHESKY. If I'm correct, I think my grandparents came from Yugoslavia and Czech. My married name is ROTTMAN. Husband thinks it is German. Can you help!!! Thanks in advance!

It is unprobable that the name LACHESKY is Check. I think it is from the former Yugoslavian republic of Macedonia (FYRoM) because it has the right spelling for that area which was imposed there by the Yugoslavian authorities. More probably, it was LACHEV formerly which was derived from a personal name LACHO/LACHE meaning "ray,light" in Slavic. Also close to Latine Lucius.
