My surname "GERAL" is apparently a "Nickname"?
I am Portuguese and my family came from Madeira. I found out recently that the surname is actually a nickname and the origination thereof is unknown. Is there anyone that possibly has the same surname or could share some knowledge of this surname.

Jiral (or giral, I'm not sure of the spelling) means "valley" in Portuguese. There is a place in Madeira called "Jiral das Freiras" (Valley of the Nuns), which is soooo beautiful :)
