Re: Mia: girls name as it is used in Germany
Mia does not mean 'peace' in German. The German for peace is frieden. The German name meaning 'peace' is Friede (click hyperlink for information).Click here: Mia for the origins of this name. Also, 'mia' means 'mine' or 'my own' in Italian (as a word, not a name).

The message board read "Mia bedeutet frieden" which translates to Mia means peace. Please help me to understand why someone would write this on a baby name message board.

Because message boards are often very bad and unreliable (but you can almost always trust this one!)

So True. But in this forum, I think the writer really believed that Mia means Peace. She wrote that it was a beautiful meaning. She must have learned this somewhere...

MiaHi Starshine Breeze,What about asking the author of that post about her source? In Germany, Mia is a pet form for Maria and it has been used as a short form of Euphemia as well. I have never seen any connection to a name meaning peace in any German book about names - not even in bad ones ;)/Satu
