Gift-names for girls!Hi Mary,
I found some names with the meaning gift or gift of God. Actually there are many different Swahili or Arabic names meaning gift... I don't speak Swahili or Arabic, so I really don't know if they've got so many different gift-words... Maybe anyone else here has an idea if all the meanings are right like this?? I'll write the name first, then the origin + meaning and then some different forms if I found any. Here we go:Æðelgifu (Old English: noble + gift) – Aethelgifu, Elgifu, Ethelgifu
Adia (African [Swahili + Hausa], gift of God) - Adiah, Adhya, Aadhya, Aadya, Adya

Dora (Greek: gift) – Do, Doa, Doraine, Dorayne, Doralee, Doralia, Doraly, Doralie, Doralin, Doralyn, Doralynn, Doralynn, Doralynne, Doran, Dore, Doree, Dorea, Dorece, Doreece, Dorey, Dorel, Dorelia, Dorella, Dorelle, Doreen, Doreena, Dorena, Doresha, Doressa, Dori, Dorie, Dory, Doria, Dorya, Doriana, Doriane, Doriann, Dorianna, Dorianne, Dorice, Dorika, Doriley, Dorilis, Dorina, Dorine, Dorinka, Dorion, Doris, Dorys, Dorisa, Dorise, Dorka, Dorke, Doorke, Dorken, Dorle, Dorlen, Dorli, Dorlisa, Dorlisha, Dorree, Dorri, Dorrie, Dorry, Dorris, Dorrys, Dorrise…

While this website's meaning for the male name John is "Yahweh is gracious", I have also heard it interpreted as "gift of God". I have heard that both meanings refer to the pregnancy of Elisabeth, John the Baptist's mother, being a gift from God because she was 'aged' and considered too old to conceive. If you choose to follow that interpretation, I suppose any simple feminine equivalent of John would serve: Jane, Jean, Jeanne or Joan. Or if you change your mind and decide to go for a more complicated name: Jeannette, Johanna, Siobhan, Sinead or Sine.

you could have 3 names one meaning gift. one meaning of or something like that. and the other meaning god.
I like the name Gabbrielle. It has something along the line of god. Good luck!!!

Have you tried the main board?Mike C. has provided a "search for words in meaning" and "search for words in definition" feature that you can limit by gender. Try it, you might like it. :)Phyllis (aka Sidhe Uaine or Gaia Euphoria)

Mary, If you like Elizabeth you might consider Isabel (Isobel, Isabella), Bettina, or Elspeth. There's also a lovely Afrikaans version: Elsabe (ELsahbee).Actually, Elizabeth is so versatile she could have eleven identically named cousins and not share a nickname with any of them. Wonderful name.
