VICTOR and VINCENT
I'm trying to find out, when these names came up, especially VINCENT(IUS). VICTOR was used as an epithet for Hercules and Jupiter/Zeus I think (when?). I guess the story with both names went like this: Victorious commander returns from battle, people in the street start shouting "Victor, victor!" ("Vincens, vincens!" respectively), commander adds "victor" (vincens) to his calling card, people start addressing him XY victor (vincens), which eventually becomes part of his name. At one point (generations later) some clever mother makes up the name Victor or Vincentius to save her son the hardship of going out to the battlefield, and it started being used as a given name.
Now my question is: When was the first VICTOR, when the first VINCENTIUS recorded as given names? I couldn't find a ny VINCENTIUS prior to the 3rd century.
