Very Scottish! The z in Culzean actually makes a y sound, in the same way that Dalziell is Dee-yell. And isn't there a golf course at Carnoustie that is well known to people who know about golf?

Carnoustie - recorded as Donaldus Carmusy in 1493. According to the Oxford Dictionary of British Surnames the meaning is uncertain but the first element may be from the Gaelic 'cathair' meaning "fort", 'carr' "rock", or carn "cairn". They say the second element has never satisfactorily been explained. I'm afraid I can find nothing more on it than that. Sorry.
Culzean - apparently it's pronounced CUL-ain. It may be from the Gaelic (used in Scotland) 'cùilan' menaing "nook, recess".
