Mike C and Miranda live in the same part of Canada, so their pronunciations are identical, and Mike's 'a' is the 'a' in 'bat'. The 'a' in 'father' is represented by 'ah'.

I also believe Mike's pronunciation guide for Sian is wrong - I've only ever heard SHAHN or SHAWN (and the last I've only heard once, on a girl who was named Sian long before it became trendy).
