No clue about the Batten bit, but -berg = mountain and -burg = town.

Still sleepy - sorry! The reason Lord Mountbatten got that name was to sidestep anitGerman feeling in Britain during the First World War. Battenberg with an E had been his family name. (Useful mnemonic.)
