The definition of Lochlainn (given above) is in agreement with page 26 of “Irish Names for Children,” by Patrick Woulfe, revised edition published 1974. The short discussion ends with, "Dr. [Alexander] MacBain suggests that it was originally MacLochlainne 'son of Scandinavia' . . ."Reg Niles
