On the name "Amitava"
The Indian male name "Amitava" is derived from Hindu and Buddhist sources (in Sanskrit) meaning "The Radiant Infinite One who has attained the State of Enlightenment" . A variant "Amitabha" is the patron deity of the East Asian sect of the Pure Land sect of Buddhism. In Hinduism, Amitabha/ Amitava refers to the Lord Buddha as also the Sun God. It is formed by joining two names "Amit" (Infinite) and "Ava" (Radiance). Variant spellings:1) Amitava
2) Amitav
3) Amitabh (Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan)
4) Amitabha (NASA scientist Dr Amitabha Ghosh)
5) Amitaabha
