Hallo!Sirkka derives from the Finnish word "sirkku" (bunting [bird]). As a first name it derives from the fairy tale "Prinsessa Lumisirkku ja kääpiöt" = 'Princess Snow-bunting and the dwarfs', which was the original title for the fairy tale "Snow-white" in Finland. Regards,
Viele Grüße
Satu

I found that this Finnish female name is identical to the word sirkka in Finnish for the cricket, as can be seen here:
http://www.websters-online-dictionary.org/translation/sirkka
(The word is onomatopoetic i.e. hints at the noise that the insects make.)But whether the name and the word are really identical and not only written in the same way by chance, possibly with a completely different etymology for the name, did not become clear.Rene
