I can't find the meaning of my girlfriends name...damnet! Someone please help me! :)

O.K...I have been sent a response about the name Derbis, but the person thought I meant it as a surname. It is a first name, if that changes anything. If someone could please send me something about this name I would greatly appreciate it! Even if it's just to tell me there's someone out there with the same name or has heard of that name.

remember, last names are often used as first names! (Taylor, Cannon, Hunter, Anderson, etc!)

THe name "Derbis" could be the Greek version of the Turkish "Dervis," (or "Dervish") which means a Moslem mystic, and metaphorically, a brave and enthusiastic person. "Dervis" itself is derived from the Persian "darwes" meaning "beggar".
What is the origin of your gf?

Derbis was born in the U.S. but both of her parents are Puerto Rican so I'm pretty sure that she is Puerto Rican.
