Lennart was originally a Low German form of the Old German name Leonhard (Old German "lewo" = lion, Old German "harti" = hard, strong) which made its way to Scandinavia in this Low German form and some other variations like e.g. Lenhart, Lenart, Lenert, Linnart etc.
The last part of the name hasn't got anything to do with "heart" at all..., but I agree, if you are strong like a lion, you probably have got a lion's heart as well ;-)Regards, Satu
