The meaning of my name
I know that my first names are a sort of hybrid, but I would love to know what they mean. Lauriana is my first name and Delany is my middle name.I had another question. Why is it that people usually have a middle name? Why not just a first and last? I'm not knocking middle names but I am curious how the tradition got started.Thanks.

The name Lauriana looks like it could be a female form of the Latin, male name, Laureano.
Laureano: Latin name that comes from laureanus, de laurus, which translates in to "of the bay"(the tree). This name is intended to mean "victorious" because in Roman Mythology, the bay crown meant victory. It would be useful to know which names were involved in the "making" of your hybrid and your background could help to clarify certain things.Hope this helps you.~Magia~

I have been trying to find out the origins of the first name Laureano, which was my great grandmothers name. I do find more men with this name and wonder how she could have gotten it. I have seen that it is an English name, but it also seems to be either of Spanish origin, or Italian. Any information emailed to me would be great.
Thanks, Jennifer

I would think that the meaning of "Lauriana" springs from the combined meanings of the names Laura and Anna -- perhaps suggesting the combined qualities of victory and grace. The name "Delany" is most likely an alternate spelling of Delaney. For a past discussion on middle names, click on this link:http://www.behindthename.com/wwwboardarc/messages/5884.html-- Nanaea
