what is the meaning of my name
I am female and was named after my grandmother who was swedish and would like to know the meaning of my name. My grandmother never kept in contact with her family once she left Sweden so I have no idea where I would start. Some of my friends said it may be of dutch or finnish origin and that it may also be a male name which could be the reason I am having so many problems trying to find the meaning. Please help?

Hi againLike Satu wrote earlier, haara means a branch (of industry/ subject/ family etc.) In other meanings it is mainly used as a part of a compound - also in family names like Tienhaara, which means something like "crossroads."
Most commonly shapes that resemble the letter Y.Heini

I should have consulted a dictionary before posting the message. Crossroads clearly was not the word I was going for. Should have written junction/ intersection instead..Heini

Haare (pronounced the way your name is spelled) is German for hair. Probably somewhere in your ancestry, someone had unusual hair- very light, dark, curly, etc. Something out of the norm enough to be known for it, thus named for it.

HaaraHi Haara!Your name isn't Swedish (there no man or woman in Sweden with that name), but there's a Finnish word "haara" meaning "branch, bough". Maybe there's a connection?? I've never heard it being used as a first name in Finland, but I don't know enough about Finnish names to be sure about that!Regards, Satu
