Big Ben
Perhaps everyone already knows this...
I was watching People + Arts channel, earlier today and happened to catch the origin of Big Ben's name. It turns out that Big Ben is a 4 tons. bell, inside the clock, named after a very well know, Wales politician, who was 1.92mts tall and very fat, called Benjamin Hal. There was a discussion, taking place at parliament, trying to decide how to refer to the bell and someone, jokingly said "let's call it Big Ben".:o) Can't wait to stand in front of Big Ben at 12:00, midday, again!!~Magia~

Sir Benjamin Hall was the Head of the Public Works Dept when the bell was made, or cast - whatever you do to bells. At school we used to sing a round: Great Tom is cast, And Christchurch bells go One, twothreefourfivesix, and Tom comes last.I haven't thought about that for decades - anyone know which Christchurch it refers to, and indeed who Tom was for the bell to take his name?
