This is a boy's name. The two men I know who bear this first name have French Canadian ancestry. They claim it means Hercules. I cannot find anything on this name on any name site. Please help me.

In Spanish the names Alcides, prn. al-SEED-es is from Greek origin meaning "strong and vigorous". Might be an adjective form of Aquiles, meaning "related to Aquiles". Patronymic form of Alceo (meaning "son of Alceo"). One of the names Hercules is known as.
