hello there..
I don't know the origin but mine comes from deep in south Louisiana. I wondered if it had a French origin. My mother named me(her daughter) after her sister that died as a baby. I have met 2 other people from this area although I think they may spell it with an extra "e". This is interesting....

When I first saw Trevlyn...I immediately thought of Trevelyan, a Cornish name that means "settlement of the bright (or shining) one; fair town." It's possible that Trevlyn is a simplified form of this.

Trevelyan :)If you click the link in your post you'll find it means 'village of Elian'. Elian is a Cornish personal name (also found in Welsh), derived from the elements el- 'much, many' and gan 'born'. Just as in Old English names, element meaning does not greatly affect element combination choices...Your source is probably confusing Elian with Elaine, or some other version of Helen. :)

What about my...reputation? If I keep answering questions like this, people are going to think I know something....I don't think it's a Welsh given name - I've never met it in my research. What it is is a Welsh place name being used as a given name (I assume it's your friend's first name?).The nearest I can find is Trevalyn in Wrexham (north-east Wales).
The stress is on the first and third syllable TREV-a-LYN, which explains why the a might have dropped out. The meaning is tref 'village' y '(of) the' llyn 'lake/pool'.Of course, there's always the possibility that your friend's grandparents just combined Trevor and Lynda/Linford/Olin/any name with lin in. It's a fine old American tradition (I'm also assuming you're in the States)...Okeydoke?

Thanks, no I am not in the States but that could well be what has happened.....the reason I think it is Welsh is because we come from an area in Australia where there were alot of Welsh mining immigrants.

Trevlyn LOOKS Welsh. Tref means village, Lynn means lake. Just a guess.
