What if the hokey pokey really is what it's all about?
The title, obviously, is not the point of the message. So sorry. :-)
Anyway, behindthename.com does not list my name (Gwenhwyfar) as I spell it, even though that's the proper origin. If you try and find the etymology of it the way I spelled it, they claim it is not in their database, and give you various other spellings of it (i.e.-Guinevere) and history and whatnot. I just think that's odd. I'm looking for other people's opinions. Thanks.

Is it a Welsh name? It seems to be like that? You should find a book that specifically deals with Welsh names.

Well...(m)If you look under the name Guinevere, it says "from the Old Welsh whatever Gwenhwyfar, which is composed of gwen and hwyfar etc. etc." A lot of times Mike C. seems to simply list the original form of the name in with the most common close variant if the original is very very ancient and/or obsolete.I happen to think that Gwenhwyfar, being the most authentic and most Welsh form of the name, is absolutely lovely....but since other entries similar to this situation do not have separate entries, I think I would recommend being content with having it listed under Guinevere as the original source of the name.

Ugh?Soooo, what is the purpose of your post, besides asking philosophical questions about the hokey pokey?
If you need to ask why your name is not in the database, the most probable answer is that Mike C didn't know about it. If you need opinions, they are on the other board.
