The meaning of the name Gioia

I've been searching for ages now to find out what the name Gioia means. I'm not sure of it's ethnic background, but my girlfriend has it as her middle name and she's not sure.
If anyone has any idea please let me nkow...it will get me loads of browny points ;o)

Gioia simply means "joy" in Italian.

I think it's Italian cuz I saw a magazine "Gioia" and It's Italian.
