Crest are not attached to last names, they belong to FAMILIES (see link inside for details)

http://www.college-of-arms.gov.uk/faq.htmBasically, you're only entitled to arms or crests of you direct ancestors had them, or you've paid for them and registered them.

I have a question. I was going to have a ring made of my last name THOMAS but after reading this article I see that I can't just have a coat of arms made for Thomas because it goes on my family history if I am reading right. Who may I get to do the research of my family to see if I have a coat of arms or not? How does all of that work?
