Re: Does anyone know the meaning of Kaori?
in reply to a message by Sean
Most Japanese names sites list "Kaori" as a masculine name, meaning "add a man's strength".However, I did find one site which lists it as a feminine name meaning "fragrant": http://www.angelfire.com/anime/darkreflection/names.htmlThe difference between the masculine and feminine versions of "Kaori" most likely depend on how the kanji characters are written. An older book of Japanese names which I have shows "Kaoru" to be a feminine name meaning "fragrant".-- Nanaea

I do know of a female manga artist name Kaori Yuki. Her name is written with the characters D—¢, which your computer may or may not be able to display. An online dictionary says that the first character means "incense" on its own and is a part of the word kaori, which means fragrance and is apparently also a name, but is written differently. The second character is listed as meaning "weave; weaving; woven item." The third on its own is listed as "(old measure); 2.44 miles," which is a little odd, but it's also part of a bunch of seemingly unrelated words. Anyway. I have no idea what the name means if it does have a coherent meaning, but there's another example of a possible set of characters.

Kaori means fragrant, good smeall and yuki means snow, than it could be a snow that smealls good... (?)Anyway, it feets good and is a cute name! Maybe their parents just decided to put two names toguether not thinking about their meaning!
