The h in Mariah is, presumably, because of other biblical names like Hannah and Rebekah ... so people generalise that if it's an OT name ending in -a, it "should" actually end in -ah. So, that would be my guess for Tamarah as well.

Where I live, there's a sad trend for an -h to get pinned on to names like Emmah and Victoriah, Dianah and even Vinoliah.
