I have come across the name Jennet, in several books lately, it seems to be becoming popular with authors. I think its Scottish and its definitely a girls name. Can anyone confirm that or provide more information, perhaps on the meaning? Also do you think its a Scottish variant of Janet or vice-versa?

Thank very much in advance.

First there came the color gold
To show the world that we are bold
Then there came the color red
To show the world the blood we shed
