A quick name usage question... Thanks!
My favorite masculine name combination right now is Reuben John. The problem is, whenever I mention the name, I get a lot of, "But you're not Jewish." I never really considered Reuben to only be a "Jewish" name. I realize that it's Hebrew in origin, but then so are lots of other names that I wouldn't consider solely Jewish in usage. But then, I haven't met a lot of Reubens, so I could be wrong. (I think it would be silly to nix the name just because I'm not Jewish, so answers to my question probably won't affect my opinion of the name. But I am really curious about it, hence the question.) So, what do you think?

Top Picks: Leona or Lorna Margaret (f), Philippa Jane (f), Reuben John (m), Reid Bartholomew (m)

I would not consider it Jewish. Now if you named all of your other kids Israel, Jordan, Simeon, Asher and Gad, well, then people might start to wonder. = ] I love Reuben John. It's a great combo.

I've actually never known a Jewish Reuben. It's well used where I live, though, especially by really enthusiastic Christians. It's not as if you were naming him Israel - that might cause confusion.

It's a name. You're fine to use anything. Think of this, are all Adams Jewish? What people are telling you is simply ignorant. But, please go to the Name Opinions Message Board with your question.

I apologize for posting it in the wrong place. I considered this a name usage question rather than one where I was asking for an opinion on the name (and those sorts of questions I *do* post on the Opinions board). But thanks for your feedback!
