If you did morphemes or studied a foreign language in High School, you'll find out that they help alot with figuring out the meaning of names. I did it backwards- I've been into names since I was 9, and am now studying greek and latin morphemes and French. "hil" would translate to the obvious "hill". "ton" will always mean "Town", if it's an english name like this one is. hope that helps!
