the meaning of my name
My name is Jessamy, and my name is not part of this website, just like everywhere else I've ever looked. I am male but I think it is actually a female name. I don't know it's origin, but if it helps I am anglo-saxon. Does anyone out there know the meaning of my name? If so, email me with your suggestions.

My name is Jessamy and I am a 36 year old female from the US East Coast. I once read that my name is provencial French for Jasmine, but just today I read that it is Hebrew... I don't think anyone knows. Do the other Jessamys find that people have trouble remembering and pronouncing your name?

When I was 18, I found the name Jasmine in a baby book. The names stemmed from Jasmine were listed below and Jessamy and Jessamine were one of them. I told my husband I would name my first child Jessamy. In 1991 she was born and the name was given. She is 12 now and doesn't care for it. She's tired of people mispronouncing it. They usually say JessuhMAE. We pronounce it Jessuhme. How do you prounce it? Since she was an infant we have called her Jessi but now that she is older, even though she doesn't care for her name she uses her full name. I just did a search for the name and found a book titled Jessamy.

Hmm, well here's something else to throw into the mix. I'm called Jessamy too, I'm female, but I read our name in a 17th century restoration comedy, used for a male servant! Wish I could remember the name of the play. Maybe I have a man's name though, not the other way around.

Hi Jessamy,
I named my daughter Jessamy as I had read it in a Victoria Holt novel "the mask of the enchantress" and really liked it... we live in Australia and according to the Womens Weekly Baby book it is another form of Jasmine (persian flower). I have bought an english book titled Jessamy by Barbara Sleigh which is about a young girl who travels back in the past. There are a few websites where Jessamy is either a female first name or a surname in the USA. Jessamine is also another form of Jasmine according to my baby name book.
Hope this helps.

You are a very rare example of a female name being used for a male! Usually it's the other way around ... Miranda's right about the origins, but I suggest that whoever named you might have been influenced by the highly masculine name of Jeremy, plus the biblical Jesse, also as male as possible!
