Re: WANT TO KNOW THE MEANING AND ORIGIN OF SAANVI
I have been looking for the origin of this name in India. Can you find any Indian song/prayer or any other literature where it is used as the name for goddess Lakshmi (or otherwise)? And do you know the spelling in any Indian language. The last time it was discussed (http://www.behindthename.com/bb/arcview.php?id=599568&board=gen; see also my response to http://www.behindthename.com/bb/arcview.php?id=782393&board=gen), we could not find any *reliable* evidence for it being a name of Sanskrit origin. There are a lot of Sanskrit words which sound close, but the standard dictionary does not list this word, and I have not come across it. If you go to http://sanskritdocuments.org/, you will find lists of prayers (amongst other things), and since a standard form of Hindu prayer was listing the various aspects (or names) of the person being prayed to, the more the better, you will find many 108 (a holy number) name lists, and maybe one or two thousand name lists of the gods and goddesses ... a quick perusal of a few of these lists does not bring up anything close to sanvi, though all that means is that it is not a common term.
