Confusion about the name Solon!!
Help!!! I just recieved my Grandfather's military records, and I found mention of his second and up until then unknown marraige! He was terminally ill at the time and not alert, but his caregiver provided some information from him. The name given is SOLON KELLY, and I've made other inquiries as to the possible origins or any other information.....the only thing being that SOLON is primarily a male name. Does anyone have any ideas for me?? I know this could be a possible misspelling, but right now I'm down right confused! Thanks in advance, Judy

Solenne perhaps. Doubtful. Also, something to remember, people use words as names as well. She may very well have been named Salon ie as a hair salon or a parlor room!

Perhaps she was called Solon but was named after her father which sometimes happens when the father dies before the child's birth (or grandfather I suppose). Or perhaps because the parents had wanted a son and when she was a girl they just stuck with the name...it happens surprisingly often.---------------------------------------

It could be that name is meant to be Kelly Solon or as you say that it is a mis spelling of some other name which I have found to be quite surprisingly common while looking into my family history
Do you have any other information such as dates places that could help you search through other records

The only fem version I can imagine would be Sally-Anne, which you could contract rather sloppily to something like Solon, and which might easily be written down by a dozy clerk who noted what he thought he heard instead of what was probable. Or, could the names be in the wrong order? Kelly Solon? Would also be an easy transcription error ... I've never seen Solon as a surname, but I haven't seen it all by any means. What an interesting discovery. Good luck!

It's not clearly written, but the person she's talking about is female, hence the confusion.
