First name "Duanel"

Anyone have any information on the origin/meaning of the first name "Duanel"? Looks like a combination of Spanish (male) names "Juan" and "Daniel," but I'm wondering if there's something more here. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Duanel is the "Spanization" of the French surname Doinel, pronounced [dwa'nel]. It comes from Antoine Doinel, main character of François Truffaut's several films (played by Jean-Pierre Léaud). The first of these films, Les 400 coups was one of the hits of the French Nouvelle vague and it was (and is) a mytical film among intellectuals.

In Cuba, the influence of French literature, philosophy and films is not unusual and there are men named Antuán (Spanization of the French Antoine) because of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (the author of Le petit prince), for instance.

you will find the answer you seek. Duane is definitely NOT a blend of Juan and Daniel! :)

Thank you, but I don't see any reference to "Duanel" under "Duane". I came across "Duanel" (note the "l" at the end) while indexing an article by a Cuban-American named "Duanel Diaz" and am curious as to the origen of this name. Perhaps it is a Spanish version of "Duane", but I've never come across it before and had my doubts. Any more info is appreciated.

Sorry, I did not see the "l" in your first post. I would assume that Duanel is a blend of Duane with Daniel, not Juan with Daniel.

Here is a link to the home page of a graduate student in Latin American studies at Princeton named Duanel. Perhaps you could contact him and ask him why his parents chose the name.
