From what I've been able to find, Lānaʻi is the name of the island, while Lanai is the Hawaiian word for "porch" or "balcony".
I haven't managed to find the origins of Lānaʻi, but perhaps the meaning of Lanai will help a little?

Yes, that did help very much. That's an awesome meaning. And I love the lyrics in your signature--at least they look like lyrics but I don't recognize them. Anyway thanks for the info! :D
