What is the origin or meaning of the name Karisha

my friends's birthday is coming up and she always would say how she can never find the meaning of her name, so I thought it would be a great gift to get the meaning and have a friends of mines draw her a poster with her name and the meaning, can someone please help me out. she is female and is of part african american heritage. I asked her mom where did she get the name and she said someone just gave it to her. I did look it up here and am not sure if it would be considered a deravitive of the name Charis.

hi my name is Krysia said ' karisha' sort of sounds the same! my name is polish and is a diminutive of Krystyna. Karisha sounds like it is the phonetic spelling. hope this helps!

This is probably a recently created name, a blend of the sounds of names like Karen and Felicia. However, since Karissa and Charissa are considered elaborations of Charis, for the purposes of this poster it's probably OK to consider Karisha a variation of Karissa and so to use Charis for its "meaning".
