Is there a name.......
Is there a girls name pronounced uh-les-ka, ah-les-ka or ee-les-ka? I thought of Aleska but is that a legit name? And then there's Eliska but thats pronounced ee-lesh-ka right, or is it pronounced ee-les-ka. Thanks so much

Oleska (pron. uh-LES-ka) can be a diminutive form if the Russian name Olesya, spelled in Russian Îëåñÿ. According to this site http://www.calend.ru/names/0/0/274/, it originates from the name Alexandra. The name Olesya has gained popularity upon a novel by Alexandre Kouprine (http://www.lib.ru/LITRA/KUPRIN/olesya.txt).

In Czech, Eliska (a pet name for Elizabeth) is pronounced ee-leesh-kah.

Eliska is a Czech name, with the first "e" pronunciated like in "set". (Not "ee" like in "speed", never in Czech.) And the "s" is written with a hook above and it's read "sh".
